Reading and Queens Park Rangers Relegated from Premier League

Reading & QPR have both been relegated from the Premier League following their goalless draw at the Madejski Stadium.

A win for either side would have kept alive their slim chances of staying up but both sides are now heading to the Championship.

But both looked wracked with nerves during a goalless stalemate which condemned Nigel Adkins’ Reading and Harry Redknapp’s QPR to starting next season in the Championship.

Bottom club Reading and second bottom QPR are both nine points behind fourth bottom Aston Villa with three games remaining, but a complicated equation means there is no chance of either avoiding the drop.

Radamel Falcao wants to be Premier League’s Highest Paid Player

335254-radamel-falcao-wants-to-be-premier-leagues-highest-paid-player.jpgChelsea and Manchester City will have to make Radamel Falcao the highest paid player in the Premier League if they want to sign him this summer.

According to a Goal.com report, the Atletico Madrid star’s representatives have told Stamford Bridge and Etihad Stadium officials they want at least £250,000-a-week.

It claims that agent Jorge Mendes has held talks with both Chelsea and Manchester City, as well as Paris St Germain, and now believes he can get his free-scoring client a huge contract with his next move.

The Premier League clubs’ respective owners, Roman Abramovich and Sheikh Mansour, will also have competition from Real Madrid but Atletico are unwilling to sell to their local rivals.

The report also claims Chelsea wanted to activate Falcao’s €60million release clause in the January transfer window but the Colombia international decided he wanted to stay until the summer.

Do you agree with Luis Suarez ban?

Liverpool striker Luis Suarez has been banned for 10 games by the Football Association for biting Chelsea’s Branislav Ivanovic.

The incident happened during Sunday’s 2-2 draw between the sides.

The 26-year-old later apologised for biting the Chelsea defender and was fined by Liverpool on Monday.

Longest bans handed out by FA

  • 9 months – Manchester United’s Eric Cantona for ‘kung-fu’ kicking a supporter in 1995
  • 9 months – Chelsea keeper Mark Bosnich who tested positive for cocaine in 2003
  • 8 months – Rio Ferdinand of Manchester United for missing a drugs test in 2003
  • 7 months – Sacked Chelsea striker Adrian Mutu for failing a drug test in 2004
  • 12 games – QPR’s Joey Barton for two counts of violent conduct against Manchester City players in 2012
  • 11 games – Sheffield Wednesday’s Paolo Di Canio for pushing referee Paul Alcock in 1998
  • 10 games – Southampton’s David Prutton for shoving referee Alan Wiley in 2005
  • 10 games – Luis Suarez for biting Chelsea’s Branislav Ivanovic in 2013
  • 9 games – Paul Davis of Arsenal for punching Southampton’s Glenn Cockerill in 1988 and breaking his jaw
  • 8 games – Luis Suarez for racially abusing Patrice Evra in 2011
  • 8 games – Man City’s Ben Thatcher for elbowing Portsmouth’s Pedro Mendes in 2006

Do you think Suarez’ ban is appropriate, do you think the FA has been too lenient or harsh? To have your say leave a comment.

Manchester United crowned Premier League Champions

Manchester United were crowned champions of England for a record-extending 20th time on Monday night following a convincing victory at home against Aston Villa.

The title triumph, made possible when Manchester City slumped to a 3-1 defeat at Tottenham on Sunday afternoon, came with four matches still remaining of the 2012/13 season. Now the challenge for Sir Alex’s men is to eclipse Chelsea’s Premier League record points haul of 95 from 38 games, a scenario that requires the Reds to win all four remaining fixtures.

Whether or not that happens, United will always be able to reflect on a job well done this term. The heartache of letting an eight-point lead slip in the final six matches of 2011/12 would have broken lesser sides. The Reds, however, used that disappointment as fuel on the relentless hunt for the trophy this time around.

Recent performances may have lacked the style and panache usually associated with title-winning teams, but that shouldn’t mask what’s been a record-breaking season.

En route to winning the league, the Reds became the only side in English top-flight history to post 26 wins from the first 30 games. Sir Alex’s side has also featured more different league scorers (19) than any other United side in history. And to think some tried to label the Reds a one-man team…

Of course, right now there’s only one number that really matters and that’s no.20. United are champions again!
